The Porcelain Record is on show in RESO (Ulgersmaweg 47B, Groningen) as part of the exhibition Anti-matter of Meaning until the 29th of may (every day between 1 and 4pm)
The Porcelain Record is an intaglio print of an engraved porcelain tile, reminiscent of interstellar communication such as the Voyager Golden Record or the Pioneer plaque—two messages NASA sent to potential extraterrestrial life. But now, rather than sending it into space, we are its recipients, confronted with the unknowability of its meaning and origins. The work thus becomes a meditation on the limits of rational, anthropocentric understanding.
