if a tree

This installation contains an analog sensor that measures whether this particular tree has fallen over or not. However, the sensor remains hidden for the audience.

Inspired by a centuries-old thought experiment, if a tree is an installation on the value of data. These days, almost everything can and will get measured, but to what end? Sensors can provide us valuable information about our surroundings, but by doing so, they translate everything into human language.

if a tree questions our collective obsession with data by asking: what do we measure, why do we measure it, and for whom do we measure it? By doing so, this installation seeks to disentangle the value of nature
from its knowability.
